Hawaii - THE PALI NOTCHES

Hawaii - THE PALI NOTCHES

rock! rock! rock!

(news reporter)"..of a hiker from the trail known as Pali notches" I swear the ridge is like less than 2 feet wide over here

what is up people? it's another beautiful day on the beaches of Hawaii. It's been ten days since my last vlog and in those 10 days I've done a lot of grad school work I've been surfing a lot. I lost another GoPro in the ocean, bought another GoPro which is the fourth action camera and my new hiking shoes finally arrived in the mail and I'm gonna celebrate that by attempting to do the Pali Notches hike.

which is undoubtedly the sketchiest hike I have ever attempted and along with having some ridiculous views, this place has a really cool history as well. So back in the 18th century, the first ever Kingdom of Hawaii was created by this king called King Kamehameha. So this guy was already ruling over Big Island and the surrounding territories and he moved to take over the islands of Maui and Oahu and the very last battle for the unification of the Kingdom of Hawaii.

Hawaii - THE PALI NOTCHES

Happened in Oahu in this area where the Pali notches is and these notches were originally built by the locals for putting cannons in there to protect, the island from Kamehameha and that (Kamehameha's)  army forced these Oahu soldiers to march to their deaths or fall off the cliffs.  The sketchiest part about this hike is that wasn't the end of people dying there  A lot of hikers in recent years have gone on that hike, slipped and fallen to their deaths because at some points this hike is basically a ridge that's two to three feet wide and on both sides there's like 3,000 feet drop-offs, so if you fall, your chances of surviving that are actually pretty slim.

So I've been scared sh**less ever since I signed up for this, I actually called up my mom yesterday and told her that, "hey mom look I'm going on this hike. But if I die I want you to know that I died happy". But in case I do die there is definitely something I need to do first Can I get the chocolate and the French vanilla, small shave-ice?

okay so Shave Ice is a special Hawaiian food which is I guess just shaved ice with flavored things on it Tastes kind of nice. I guess it's just flavored water. I think I'm ready for the hike finally but there's one last thing I need to do okay so that went on for 15 weeks too long, that's rain. oh really?

Hawaii - THE PALI NOTCHES

we're gonna be like.. wet wet

rock! rock! rock! You alright?

yeah yeah

need to be ready for that

After a very sketchy ascent with dislodging mini rocks, we are the first notch. I'm making it sound more dramatic than it is but it is kinda sketchy this is definitely the sketchiest hike I've ever done. Oh yeah? Yeah Is this the second notch?   Okay this one's definitely deeper yeah that's the thing, I think somepeople just go down this way. If I was a rock climber I just go down this. This is .. like what I saw in the pictures. They were like, "Some people go down this way" but like the guy who wrote the article was like, "one time right to jump seven foot at the end". Because they couldn't find a hold, but the other way, like the rope it's like if you fu** up, I think you fall, like off the ridge.

Right we are in the second notch. Now for the last bit of the ridge. This is really windy I swear the ridge is like less than 2 feet wide over here pretty sketchy, Oh rain! Yeah let's get a.. let's get a quicker pace going. Okay I don't wanna be hiking back in the rain Okay but we're so close fu** it. Let's just finish the hike. You wanna go all the way? Yeah.  I might stay here then, you want to leave the backpack?

Probably yeah?  If you do it, don't go with the bag because that's like,  it'll throw you off your balance but.. You're staying? I'm staying yeah. I'll stay too then. Are you sure? Yeah. Okay We are ending our hike right here with the chimney in the background, because I wimped out. it's drizzling a little bit I don't want to like go back in the rain

Hawaii - THE PALI NOTCHES

Okay time to head back down,It is raining ,This doesn't look as bad as it did on the way up,It is clearly pouring out there. Glad we got out of there before it started raining (too hard)

All right so I think I'm down and safe and almost at the car. Tyler ran ahead cuz he was worried that the car wasn't locked and he wanted to check but I still wanted to film an outro shot. That was definitely the sketchiest hike. I've ever done Beats the Crouching lion by a mile and we turned around at the end, but I'm glad we did cuz it looked like it was raining back there right after we left. So I'm proud of myself for not doing the really dumb thing for once. By the way I'm at the Pali lookout point which is at the bottom of the hike,

so if you want to see the views without doing a sketchy hike, this is where you want to come and stop But yeah.  That's it for this POST. I think we're gonna go celebrate, eat some food or drink or something and I'll probably be doing a lot more fun, beautiful hikes, so subscribe if you want to see more of that. I'll catch you guys on the next one Alright so Foodland..

The chicken wings, you can always get. The mashed potatoes, not everyone has
