Good evening from the beaches of Waikiki I just got done
with another surf session but I think I'm finally kind of starting to get the
hang of surfing but anyway this post is not about surfing. I was supposed to
go on this hike that I was really excited about called the Pali Notches hike
today with the guy from my hostel and he ended up bailing last minute so I
couldn't go.
I was kind of bummed out about that and now I just decided
that I'm just gonna start going on these sketchy hikes by myself starting with
the Crouching lion hike tomorrow. Still super exhausted from being wiped out by
8 foot waves this morning. I think my foot is a little injured from the sea
urchin spike that got stuck in there a few days ago but I'm going on the
Crouching lion hike. which is supposed to be one of the most difficult and
dangerous hikes in all of. O'ahu Actually I met this guy at this hostel or my
hostel who told me that his friend died while she was trying to do this a couple
years ago so I need to be extra careful on this one.
The reason I'm doing this today despite being exhausted is
because the bus ride to there and back should take around 4 hours total and
apparently that number gets a lot worse on the weekdays so I'm gonna do it
today on a Sunday or I'll have to wait till next week, Had to get my fuel for
the big day ahead. Think I'm ready to get on the bus now.
Ok so I definitely got off at the wrong bus stop. I think
have to walk 10 more minutes that way to get there but this street doesn't
really have a sidewalk or a place to walk so I'll just have to maneuver my way
out there. By the way behind me, behind those mountains is where they filmed
Jurassic Park and you can actually go and visit the set and take a tour but
that costs like 50 to 150 dollars but I think I might go do that someday.
Now I need to get to this hike and get started.So I think I
can see the actual view point I'm trying to get to behind me there and there
are two ways to get there: a short way and a long way, and it's a one-hour loop
all together but it's a very steep elevation gain. So it's like 2,000 feet to
the top, not an easy hike. I don't know why someone honked at me yeah it is
supposed to take around one hour to do the whole thing but I'm sure it'll take
me longer with all my foot injuries, and my backpack full of a lot of water.
So this little walk is definitely not meant to be done on
foot. If I had known earlier how sketch this is gonna get I would have waited
for the next bus. so if you end up at the wrong bus stop just wait for the next
bus, don't try to walk it. There's not really any real sidewalks here okay not
gonna lie. I knew this was gonna be a little dangerous but I wasn't expecting
it to be straight up vertical from the very start of the hike There's a rope
here which I don't know.how much I can trust. These are good holds but like
there's no way I can do this with my camera swinging around my shoulders I just
pulled out my GoPro so you can get that point-of-view view of the hike okay
guys I want to keep this one short because I think I have some bad news and I
don't have time to really film the way I initially intended to I lost my phone
while I was hiking up here at some point between where the ropes started to here
here and then I went back and spent like 30 minutes trying to find.
where my phone is I couldn't really find it anywhere so it
must have fallen into some like crack or undergrowth that I can't find, but I
think I only have like an hour before sunset but I think I see the crouching
lion hike over there so I'm gonna go as far and back as ,I can in the next 20
minutes towards that spot behind me and after that, I'm just gonna head back
down the way I came up
yeah I definitely don't want to be stuck here in the dark .I
haven't seen anyone else so far on the hike and I don't know if I'll see anyone
else on the hike.okay so I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing. I think that
is the Crouching.Lion point behind me but I can't even find the trail that I
came here on so.
I'm not gonna try to be any more stupid than I already have
been today. I'm gonna go down whatever
way I can and try to find a bus or someone who can help me get an uber
or direct me to a bus.Dude I hope I'm going the right way there's way too much
undergrowth here hopefully will get me out of here..
well.. okay so I thought I was going down and out but I
guess I ended up right where this rock is. I didn't really realize where I was
going until the undergrowth cleared up. Well yeah I'm gonna head out again and
try to find a way out but I think this is it

okay the drop-offs are pretty bad here,You guys didn't see a
phone on the trail by any chance did you?
No we didn't. I'm sorry is that the easiest way down? No ,do you know
where the easy way down is? You know where the second path is? No (provides instructions
to find second trail) If you want we are going down that way.

and LA was very depressing
during the pandemic so I just came to Hawaii like six weeks
ago. Yeah this is like my first real hike. I got my hiking shoes and
everything.Just follow it straight and follow it straight off (jokingly points
towards drop). Yeah that's what I was thinking. But yeah I was totally lost for
like 20 minutes cuz I couldn't even find the way there And I was like, what do
I do?
So Laura this is what happened the year you came back This
was the death.So someone actually died here? A couple of people have. yeah like three people. If they put a sign up
here saying that people would be more careful, Yeah They actually closed it for
a little bit. So if you follow either this path or that path down there.
yeah. You should come to a clearing
where there's another grave. Okay. it should be on your left. If you have any
more trouble... and it's it's a simple path? Yeah
Just yell, "I can't find it!" Laura and Brittany,
Nadir. Nice to meet you. Thank you guys. Yeah no problem okay so I was lost for
like 30 minutes and basically panicking. Then I ran into these really nice
women who go to BYU who showed me the way back and showed me the easy way down
which is right here hopefully I can find more people who can give me a ride or
something and yeah so the place where I was before that's not actually the crouching
Lion. Behind me, that, that is the actual Crouching Lion. I don't know if,
I'll have time to like go up it but let's see. Not gonna lie
this is quite the view. I know there's more serious sh** going on, right now
but hey at least my phone hopefully has a really pretty final resting place
right now .okay so whoever told me this is supposed to be easy was straight up
lying. This is like some jungle book sh**. I'm like hanging onto branches half
the time as I'm going down.
so there's good news at last. Met this family who were
taking family pictures on this beautiful Lake and they told me,, how to catch
the bus to Waikiki so at least I know how to get out ok, so I think I've found
the bus stop here, so I think I'll be fine and the bus driver can probably tell
me where to go and how to get back to my hostel and I bet I'll be watching this
video 20 years from now and laughing.
This definitely turned out to be more of an adventure than I
planned it to be
