Bali Monkeys Think I'm a Tree
I'm like a monkey stand right now. If anyone wants to take
one off this is our first morning here in Bali. Right now we're in Ubud which
is a town in Bali also known as the cultural capital of Bali. We're about to go
into the Monkey Sanctuary. I'm with my mom who's terrified of monkeys so this
should be interesting. Do not panic if the monkey jumps on you Please drop any
food and walk away slowly they will soon jump off
Ready? I'm not ready,go alone
lots more monkeys than I expected over here for sure. They
put on these traditional Indonesian skirts or cloths called Sarangs on statues
of their gods, but apparently, they also put it on rocks and on trees which was
interesting to me. This definitely doesn't happen every day. I like how chill
he is now I got a monkey butt on my face.
What does he want? I don't have any bananas alright (mom) He
just won't get off! What the hell doesn't wanna leave me. this is definitely my
favorite part of.
Bali or Indonesia so far in general. There's another one.
Here monkey. So usually you have to give these monkeys bananas to get them on
top of you but something really weird just happened and three monkeys
altogether jumped on my shoulders and they were just chilling there for more
than two or three minutes.
So I'm like a monkey stand right now,if anyone wants to take
one off.Oh wonderful,oh 1 of them left me. There's nothing there (in my
pockets),(mom) looks like they don't even want anything. They are just chilling
(mom) the monkeys have found another monkey.the bananas were a bad investment considering
they just come sit on my shoulders for free
(mom) the monkeys have found another monkey.you can make
this happen without bananas sometimes.Nah don't go! come back.(background
person) Relax. Relax. Relax please. Don't panic. They're really friendly. That
was really cool. How did you like that? Awesome, for our next stop today we're
going to this Hindu temple called Pura Taman Saraswati.my mom just put her
gangster sunglasses on so shits about to get real.right I'm at the Kecak dance
temple. So people do fire dances here but apparently that's more of a tourist
attraction rather than a religious ritual but fire dances are actually done as
a religious ritual at other temples in Bali.
This one seems to be closed though right now. The next stop
for today is going to the Kanto lampo waterfall. My mom doesn't want to go down
the steps because she's lazy.
Good morning. This is our second morning here in Bali. Oh
wow the waves are pretty strong right now. We're at Tanha Lot which is a 500
year old temple on the side of the rocky beach. It's quite the site. It seems
like this place always has a lot of tourists. It's 7:30 a.m. and this place is still
packed and the waves seem like they're super strong so this does not look like
the kind of ocean, where you want to go swimming on any given day. there's some
really cute crabs over here.
so apparently they do let you into the temple but first you
have to go through their little ritual where they put that bindi on your head
and a flower on your ear damn I look beautiful. so you can go a few steps up
the temple and then there's no entrance and more people are following soon
doing some mango shopping.it's around 12 p.m. and we're finally headed off Bali
and headed to Java so we gotta drive for four hours and then we're gonna have
to cross on a ferry. It should be fun.
everywhere else. I did come back to Bali ten days after that
trip with my mom to celebrate New Year's Eve by myself in Bali and I stayed way
up in the northwest in Canggu Beach and the beaches there were considerably
cleaner. although I would still not call them clean. A lot of the litter that
you see on the beaches is not from people littering directly on the beaches but
it's because of the ocean bringing back what people dumped into the ocean but
that's the bigger problem in general. There were signs all over Kuta saying. that
during four months of the year which is the rainy season, that's when you see
the most trash getting washed up on the beaches and unfortunately.
December happened to be one of those four months so if
you're planning a trip to Bali, I would strongly recommend looking up when the
rainy season is and avoiding those months completely. If that's the only time
that works for you like it did for me and you have to go somewhere for winter
break, once you go to Bali get out of that southern Bali area as soon as you
can. Head up north, go south, go east to gili islands. Anywhere else is
probably cleaner.
Unless ofcourse, you
absolutely love the Hard Rock Cafe and the casinos and that's a bigger priority
for you than going to cleaner beaches. Kuta was straight up of one of the
dirtiest beaches I've seen in my life and that's coming from someone who grew
up in South Asia, so I was really afraid that I would be disappointed in Bali
but all that changed when I went to Ubud the next day.
The monkey forest was freakin amazing. That moment, that minute or two when I had those three monkeys with me, I have to say that's my favorite moment in myentire three-week Indonesia trip in hindsight. There were some really pretty temples too in Ubud. Tips for visiting Bali. First off use (motor) bikes, ride scooters whenever you can instead of getting an uber because traffic can be a major issue.
I would have definitely missed my fight back out of Bali if it wasn't for scooters. They have scooter services for uber and other companies like Gojek that you might want to check because with taxi there's a good chance you might get stuck in traffic especially. if you're going somewhere busy like near the airport uber is not nearly as reliable as it is in some countries like the US. When we were going from that temple to the waterfall.we had to wait for an uber for one and a half hours before we got one.
A lot of the times drivers don't like to cancel rides because that looks bad for them . sothey just don't show up they just chill around the area and wait for you to cancel. Sometimes even when the Uber is close by you call them they don't always speak English which is understandable. You're expected to speak Bahasa, they're not expected to speak English I guess but when they don't speak English it can be hard to get in touch with them and find where they exactly are. If you like to party with people I would strongly recommend going to Canggu Beach hostel.
it says it's a party hostel in the description (hostelworld.com). I had a freaking great time there. I would also be careful about going there if you don't have a scooter or if you can't rent out a scooter because it can be a little tricky getting in and out of there. If you're going to the Monkey Forest, and this is important hide your sunglasses or anything that a monkey can grab and run away. This happened to a good friend of mine. Monkey came and grabbed his sunglasses and just took off with it so avoid that by being more careful about this.
If you don't have time to go away from Bali I would strongly recommend going to the tiny island of Nusa Penida which is in the south of Bali. I think that's the closest place you can go to near Bali that has the picturesque views of Indonesia that you've probably seen online.
probably my favorite
part of Indonesia. Mom, stop the commentary
(mom) why are you recording then?
with me today, I have brought my maid from the village
I'm gonna knock your teeth out with a slap
This is the first time my village maid is seeing the beach
